Hacienda Inn's STORY

Established in 1972 by Vera Varela and her husband Marcelino, Hacienda Inn was a dream come true. After many years of cooking for her growing family, friends and neighbors, Vera began selling tamales and dreamed of one day owning her own restaurant.

While looking for properties in Old Town Cottonwood, she was advised to instead buy on 89-A, as she was told that was the direction Cottonwood would be headed. Though there were only two businesses on 89-A at the time, Vera and Marcelino purchased the parcel and began construction on the building which has been Hacienda Inn for over forty years.

On opening day, they sold out of everything hours before closing.

Over the next forty years, and despite a bet that she wouldn't last a year, Vera devotedly fed the community, expanded the size of the building twice to accommodate the growing business and still continued raising her seven children.

Wanting to retire, Vera sold Hacienda Inn in 2007, but returned once again cooking with love for an extremely grateful, community.
